It’s the weekend in San Diego which means time to get outside and do stuff. And don’t forget about dear ol’ dad… he likes to do stuff too. Whether your dad enjoys vegging in the recliner, tackling the yard, or simply spending time with the fam, there’s lots of stuff to do this Father’s Day weekend. Just take your pick!
 
 
Switchfoot at the San Diego County Fair- Friday, June 15th
 
Don’t miss the opportunity to see San Diego’s own Switchfoot performing live in their hometown from the Heineken Grandstand Stage. Their new album Vice Verses is sure to please. The show starts at 7:30pm and tickets are still available. For more information click here.
 
 
San Diego Tributefest- Saturday, June 16th
 
Enjoy the best of the best in regards to tribute bands, food trucks and yes, of course, beer. Tributefest takes place this Saturday at Liberty Station starting at 11am and is sure to dazzle the fest goers in its inaugural year as it has done for the past three up in LA. General admission doesn’t involve any suds, but you can purchase VIP passes and score 10 drink tickets to taste all the fest has to offer. For more information and tickets, click here.
 
 
San Diego Oysterfest- Saturday, June 16th
 
For the third year in a row you can enjoy everything oyster at Oysterfest happening this Saturday at the Marina Embarcadero North. Just so you know, there will be beer, food from some of San Diego’s favorite restaurants and music too. Plus, be sure to cheer on the teams in the “Shuck & Suck” contest. Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition- Saturday, June 16th
 
Returning for the seventh year, the nation’s original surfing dog contest will feature close to 60 pooches hanging paw. Head over to Dunes Park in Imperial Beach at 11am for this FREE family event. Parking might cost you a buck or two but there’s also a free shuttle to the beach starting at 9am. The event benefits the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Father’s Day Fest- Saturday, June 16th and Sunday, June 17th
 
Celebrate Dad this weekend at Qualcomm Park (practice field) at a festival made just for him. From their own website the event is quoted as being: “an interactive experience that honors the relationship between Dad and the Kids. The festival features live music, interactive activities, and special performances.” Dad can also participate in an amateur BBQ competition, and relax in the “man cave”. That’s My Boy (R)- starring Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg
Donny (Sandler) fathered a son as a young teen and raised Todd (Samberg) as a single parent. But after years of separation Donny shows up right before Todd’s wedding wanting to reconnect and ultimately must face the repercussions of being such a bad parent. You can watch the trailer here.
 
 
Rock of Ages (PG-13)- starring Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin
The film follows a couple in 1987 Los Angeles, who are chasing their dreams and facing romantic challenges. The soundtrack is rumored to be epic and be on the lookout for some 80s celebrity cameos. Catch the trailer here.
