Rock history is littered with tales of strange bedfellows. From grizzled indie rocker Ryan Adams marrying pop princess Mandy Moore to the most recent love connection between Canadian music stars Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, rock hook-ups have a tendency to be as unexpected as possible.

Still, it’s hard to reconcile what seems to be the oddest couple of 2012 so far, EDM mega-star Deadmau5 (known by his mom and accountant as Joel Zimmerman) and rock tattoo celebrity Kat Von D.

As reported by Perez Hilton, Deadmau5 himself outed the heavily-inked and equally cat-loving pair as a couple on Twitter when fans started quizzing him after he posted a host of pics on Facebook and Instagram (like the one above), compounded by him sending sweetheart tweets to his supposed significant other :

Given Deadmau5’s penchant for making mayhem online (and otherwise), there are some factions who are chalking it all up as a publicity stunt (not that the dance music producer is wanting for attention, especially in light of his recent foray onto the Modern Rock charts with the song “Professional Griefers” with My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way). It also seems kind of weird that the Mau5 would start dating the ex-girlfriend of Mötley Crüe’s bassist Nikki Sixx, given Deadmau5’s BFF status with the Crüe’s drummer Tommy Lee. It could make things seriously awkward backstage at a Mötley Crüe show, anyway.

But hey, who’s to judge? There’s just as much of a chance that that Kat Von D and Deadmau5 are really in love – or at least really feeling each other and making out a lot. That’s cool, too.
