Becky G has joined the cast of the new Power Rangers movie. The film, which is slated for a 2017 release, is a spin-off of the wildly popular 1990s live action TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Becky G will play the Yellow Ranger in the action film that follows a group of teens who harness their unique superpowers to save the world. She rounds out the cast of Rangers, which also includes Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin and Dacre Montgomery.
The 18-year-old singer, who was born Rebecca Marie Gomez, released her latest song over the summer titled “Break a Sweat.” She currently plays the recurring role of “Valentina Galindo” on the Fox show Empire, opposite Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson.
Power Rangers will be directed by Dean Israelite, who helmed the 2014 film Project Almanac. It is slated for a January 2017 release.
