“It wasn’t just sexual assault that led to my complex PTSD. I have prolonged repetitive traumas over the course of my career. #ShareKindness” she tweeted without elaborating any further. It’s unclear why Gaga wanted to say more about what led to her PTSD diagnosis, but given the nature of Twitter it could be in response to trolls.

Gaga’s conversation with a group of homeless LGBT youth aired Monday (December 5th) on Today as part of the show’s #ShareKindness campaign. She sat with residents of the Ali Forney Center in New York and shared that she had been raped at 19. She also said it had taken her seven years after that horrific event to speak up about it. Gaga admitted she’d never gone public with the fact that she suffers from PTSD, but she wanted to be honest because secrecy and shame weren’t healthy alternatives.
